Our instructors are professionally trained ART EDUCATORS who can not only teach drawing skills, but also guide students through the whole creating process. Below are the introduction to our instructors who will teach next semester:
Aimee – Studio Manager, Lead Teacher of Creative and Drawing Levels
Aimee studied both Art and Theatre for her BA and graduated summa cum laude. She has been teaching for over 5 years and has loved the humor, honesty, and imagination the children have shared with her. Aimee has worked with Kelly Lamb, a designer in Los Angeles, where she honed her clay hand-building skills, glaze techniques, and mold making. She is fluent in a variety of traditional mediums but her favorites are watercolor, acrylic, and oil. Shortly after moving to the Bay Area two years ago she received the Alameda’s Artist Award and has shown her work in the East Bay and San Francisco.
Jason – Lead Teacher of Drawing, Painting and Advanced Workshops
Jason is a Visual Artist and Graphic Designer, who received his bachelor degree from China Central Academy of Fine Arts (中央美术学院) and MFA from Academy of Art. He has a strong base in realistic drawing, painting, and illustration design. Besides the traditional media, he also has expertise at digital painting using software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. He also creates illustrations for advertising and editorial clients. In addition, he has many years of professional experience as an art teacher in both China and the US. The art education background, art and design experience, strong drawing skills and the passion for art and design make him a good art teacher!
Sarah – Founder of the School, Lead Curriculum Developer
Ms. Sarah got her PhD in Art Education from the Ohio State University. Her research focuses on critical art education pedagogy and creative thinking. As a member of the National Art Education Association, she presents frequently on the NAEA conferences. Sarah has over 10 years teaching experiences. She started teaching studio art to students of all ages when she was 19 years old at her father’s art school. She was awarded the “Best Art Teacher” in China by the Art Education Committee, the Ministry of Education. Then she continued to pursue her PhD degree in Art Education because she loves teaching art. During her PhD study, she taught college level contemporary art and digital art courses for four years. Ms. Sarah founded Happy Valley Art School in 2015 and she also teaches art in Ohlone College since 2014. She has a strong foundation in Chinese painting, calligraphy, drawing, and painting.
We also have Garth, Gideon, Tiffany and Laihao as our substitute teachers. Laihao is also in charge of our Adult Art Salon.
